Artist Suzie van Staaveren thinks the best thing about brick is that it has a very simple shape, but you can make endless things with it. With bricks you can build something in space from your own imagination. Brick is not flat like a painting, but has a shape. You can pick it up or build a new shape with it. Take a good look around you, for example at the houses on your street. Do you notice how many types of brick and how many different buildings made of brick there are? In this workshop you will work with artist Suzie van Staaveren to make your own brick from clay and also build with it.

The brick - According to the Dictionary, literally: a baked stone. Big, small, in lots of colors, found in your home, on the street, in squares. You probably know bricks mostly as a building material. But what else could you build with bricks? And why do artists find ordinary brick so interesting today? Kunsthal KAdE is creating an exhibition on brick this fall, featuring work by architects, artists and designers who are all inspired by brick in their own way.
