In this workshop by the KNIPmeisjes for Kunsthal KAdE, you’ll discover how abstract art is created. Experiment with color, movement, and emotion, like Helen Frankenthaler, or work with form, lines, and repetition, like Donald Judd.
What happens when you let go of control just a little? And what happens when you then start playing with shape, rhythm, and space? In this workshop, we’ll draw inspiration from Helen Frankenthaler and Donald Judd. First, we’ll experiment with diluted paint: letting colors flow, blend, clash, and go their own way. Then we’ll work with cardboard and discover what happens when we cut, fold, stack, and combine shapes.
There’s no right or wrong, and you don’t need any experience. It’s all about trying things out, making changes, and discovering what emerges. Children can experiment with color, shape, and space in their own way. And before you know it, a colorful, three-dimensional work of art emerges that they can take home with them.
