Lecture Miriam Kolk

In this lecture, art historian Miriam Kolk discusses the life of Van Wittel and who his patrons were.

Miriam Kolk is one of the authors of the catalog accompanying the exhibition. She became fascinated by Caspar van Wittel and his son, the architect Luigi Vanvitelli, while studying art and architectural history at the University of Amsterdam. Among other things, she is researching in Rome the life of the painter and his family and the social circles in which they found themselves. Van Wittel had many important patrons who belonged to the highest echelons of the nobility or the papal court. This was an important reason why the originally Dutch painter was able to make it so far in a city as populated by artists as Rome. In the lecture, Miriam Kolk will discuss the life of Van Wittel and who his patrons were. At the end of the lecture she will visit the exhibition where she will give additional explanations of certain works and questions may be asked.

Participation in the lecture is free on presentation of a valid admission ticket to Kunsthal KAdE.
