Rosita Steenbeek (b. 1959) grew up in Amersfoort and lives for part of the year in Rome, in a palazzo where Dutch painters used to meet. Actually, she has much in common with Van Wittel, for he too grew up here and moved to Rome.
Her book "Other light" is about Matthias Withoos (he painted "view of Amersfoort"), the teacher of Jasper van Wittel, among others, and his daughter Alida. Alida falls desperately in love with Jasper, who moves to Italy because of the disaster year of 1672, where he soon changes his name to Gaspare Vanvitelli. The writer has based them as much as possible on historical data and, in order to get closer to the persons and their work, even painted works of theirs.
