Storytelling: stories from the past and far away
In all cultures, elders have an important function in the transmission of stories and traditions. The storytellers of Verhalenderwijs are elderly people from different cultural backgrounds. They like to take you with them in their stories to other times and cultures. With their stories they bridge the differences between generations and cultures.
The nineteen storytellers of Verhalenderwijs are from different places around the world (Curaçao, Cape Verde, Suriname, Turkey and the Netherlands) and trained by Surinamese storyteller Paul Middellijn. Since the start of the project in 1999, they have told their stories many times.
Today meet storytellers Willy Djaoen (Curaçao) and Mohamed el Wakidi (Morocco).
