In keeping with 150 Years of Mondrian and the central theme of imagination, Library Eemland and Kunsthal KAdE are hosting Arne Hendrinks' theatrical lecture on The Incredible Shrinking Man. Through speculative design research, Hendriks explores the possibilities and consequences of a half-meter-long man. The Incredible Shrinking Man essentially revolves around the desire to shrink. When we think of shrinkage, we think mostly of what we are giving up and have no regard for what we are gaining. But when something shrinks, it also always creates space for something else or something new. The Incredible Shrinking Man creates a mental space to think freely, where in reality this space hardly exists. Space to think about what our new paradise can be. A theatrical reading that thus fits well with the idea of a Scouring Paradise, we need less, but can and do we want this? The Incredible Shrinking Man revolves around the need to create and at the same time the desire to want less.
When: Wednesday evening, May 25, 2022
Time: 8:15 - 10 p.m.
Location: KAdECafé, Eemplein 75
Costs: 7,50
The theatrical lecture is organized in connection with the exhibition "Scouring Paradise. This exhibition starts from Mondrian's search for an 'Earthly Paradise': a modernist dream of a makeable world based on form and style, in which people strive for the true, good and beautiful from freedom. In contemporary art, the ideal of a makeable world seems to have faded into the background. In its place is reflection on the world and society. In the exhibition "Abrasive Paradise" at Kunsthal KAdE and the Elbow Church, artists analyze the current state of being and, through experience, point the viewer to the reality in which we live.
