Suzanne Swarts of Museum Voorlinden visited Amersfoort's Kunsthal KAdE in Nu te Zien! the doublesolo Imaginable lives and Trouble Skirts. It features photographs, paintings and sculptures by Roy Villevoye, in addition to costumes, drawings and textile works by Mella Jaarsma.
Villevoye has traveled frequently to the Asmat region in the Indonesian province of South Papua since the early 1990s. The artist has developed a personal connection with the community there and reflects on those encounters and experiences in his work.
For 40 years, Mella Jaarsma has lived and worked in Indonesia. Inspired by the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta, Mella Jaarsma explores the relationship between man and nature there with her costumes and installations.
