Books and postcards
With each exhibition, several postcards will be made featuring works from the exhibition. These cards are for sale in the KAdEShop. You will also find in the shop several books and items appropriate to the exhibitions.
For the exhibition Jacob Lawrence - African American Modernist A catalog has been compiled and a graphic novel by comic artist Rashad Doucet. You can find both in the KAdEShop. The comprehensive catalog can also be ordered online via Ideabooks, including catalogs from previous exhibitions Roy Villevoye - Imaginable Lives and Mella Jaarsma - Trouble Skirts are available.
The exhibition also features work by Barbara Earl Thomas (1948). Thomas studied under artist Jacob Lawrence at the University of Washington in the 1970s. He was an important mentor to her who taught her to look critically at the composition and intent of her work.
Thomas' homage to Lawrence consists of four works depicting important moments in his life. The first shows the young Lawrence at a painting in progress. The two depicts Jacob and Gwendolyn in New York. The third shows Lawrence as an older artist in his Seattle studio. The last work honors him as a teacher, standing in front of the School of Art at the University of Washington.
Silkscreens of two of Thomas' works are for sale in the KAdEShop.
