How do you show what culture really does to people? That was the central question when the basic cultural institutions in Amersfoort joined forces. The answer: three short films full of stories from visitors, participants and makers. Films that touch, surprise and connect. For the production filmmaker Bobby Littlejohn was asked, a maker with an eye for the small and the human.
The assignment was clear but ambitious: show in sound and vision what culture means to Amersfoorters. Not from policy or figures, but through the people themselves. What is the benefit of going to a concert? How does taking part in a course, performance or exhibition affect you? What does culture mean in daily life, as a visitor, as a maker, as a spectator?
Real people, real stories
Together with the institutions involved, Bobby captured cultural moments over the past few months: on stage, in the auditorium, on location and in the classroom. Then came the second step: in a stylized setting, participants looked back. Using images, they told their stories. Personal, vulnerable, recognizable. From first visit to years of membership. From young to old. The films show the richness of cultural experience, in all its forms. Not as a summary, but as an ode to the diversity of Amersfoort and its inhabitants.
