The Elbow Church is currently hosting a special art installation by American artist Nina Chanel Abney. This young artist draws inspiration from Harlem Renaissance artists such as Jacob Lawrence.

Therefore, it is well worth taking a look at the Elbow Church before or after your visit to Kunsthal KAdE.

About Heaven's Hotline

The Saint need not be heavy or fixed in the installation Heaven's Hotline by American artist Nina Chanel Abney in the Elbow Church.

With bright colors, abstract shapes and references to pop culture, Abney speaks of identity and community. Her signature style takes advantage of the continuous stream of images poured out on us in the 21st century.

At the center is a large neon work inspired by an altarpiece: a Black Jesus forming a rainbow with his hands. A statement of inclusiveness. Along the walls hang vinyl banners reminiscent of church announcement boards, but with sharp, funny text like "God forgives, but I don't." They change the message from judgment to connection.

With Heaven's Hotline Abney makes the church a space where satire and spirituality can go hand in hand.

Tickets and information

The Elleboogkerk (Langegracht 36, Amersfoort) can be visited Tuesday through Sunday between 10:00 - 17:00. The entrance fee is €6 for adults; for youth up to 24 years of age and Museumkaar holders, admission is free.

Tip: on every first Sunday of the month, there is a free introduction (1:30-14:15 p.m.) to the installation, where you will learn more about Nina Chanel Abney, her work and the church itself.
