Wake up and come to sleep at KAdE

Walk through the four sleep stages and discover the realm of sleep and dreams. Seen through the eyes of 50 artists and designers.

Sleep is a basic necessity of life and magazines are full of tips & tricks for a good night's sleep: with the golden rule of rest cleanliness and regularity recurring as the ideal form of sleep hygiene. This is not surprising because you spend a third of it in sleep.

A mysterious state in which we have a lowering of consciousness that temporarily eliminates contact with the outside world. Our body and mind come to rest. We surrender to it, vulnerable and thrown back on ourselves. During sleep, a process of cell recovery, energy conservation, learning and recording of memories takes place. Separately, sleep remains a mystery.

In the new family exhibition Sleep! you explore all four stages of sleep. You will move from slumber to light sleep, move on to deep sleep and (sleep) walk through the dream to the main room where the bed is central. If you like, follow a second sleep cycle until you leave the exhibition rested.

Sleep! is a small exploration into the vast realm of sleep and dream, seen through the eyes of some fifty visual artists and designers. They will let you experience the importance and privilege of rest.

We are happy to share these initial reactions from our visitors:

'Definitely not soporific.'

'Special works. Sleep will never be the same again.'

'Once again very successful. Inviting and definitely recommended.'

'Surprising and very varied. Perfect start to a day off.'

'Fantastic exhibition with an intriguing theme. Surprising and diverse. We go home with new insights and energy. Lots to think about.'

The exhibition Sleep! is on view through Jan. 5, 2025.
