Backlight Meetup: 'The Perfect Me'

On Wednesday, August 25, there will be another Tegenlicht Meet Up at the KAdECafé. This time it's on the theme of being beautiful. Being beautiful has many advantages: you do better in the relationship market, in finding a job, a house and a network. But who decides what is beautiful? And how do you compete with your idealized, digital, self?

This theme ties in with the Mirror I Mirror exhibition now on view at Kunsthal KAdE. 'Mirror | Mirror' allows visitors to marvel at the versatility of the phenomenon of mirroring. We are confronted with the mirror on a daily basis. On social media we are constantly mirroring our identity. The present time demands (self)reflection more than ever.

One of the speakers this evening is Carolien Arnold, independent location theater maker and artistic director of cultural participation projects. She also makes free work. For the exhibition Mirror | Mirror she developed a series of experiments in which visitors confront their own mirror image in search of her/his true face.
