Iconoclast Architecture Cafe

28.02.2019

During a special Architecture Café with photographer Hans Wilschut and urban planner Johan Galjaard, visual art will play a central role.

The major Van Wittel exhibition on display at Kunsthal KadE from January 26 is the occasion for a veritable iconoclasm for FASadE. During a special architecture café on Thursday, February 28, with photographer Hans Wilschut and urban planner Johan Galjaard, visual art will play a central role.

Johan Galjaard has captured his fondness for the city portrait in a pictorial essay that spans five centuries of painting. The painted cityscape tells much about how the city is viewed and how the city and public space is arranged. From Matthias Withoos to Gerhard Richter, the city is constantly changing and so is its artistic representation.

Internationally celebrated photographer Hans Wilschut is fascinated by the change that cities worldwide are undergoing under the influence of globalization. Population growth, tourism, social and cultural changes have far-reaching effects on culture and landscape. On the edge of public and private domain and along the fringes of the city, Wilschut investigates the places where change manifests itself. In doing so, he often employs an unusual point of view, as a result of which his intriguing images provide a view of the city that you are unlikely to see yourself. The evening will be introduced by Robbert Roos, director of kunsthal KadE.
