At The Elbow is a new exhibition space in the former Elleboogkerk on Langegracht 36 in Amersfoort. Over the next few years it will feature extensive installations by artists from the Netherlands and abroad.
The story behind InDeElleboog
A major fire in 2007 destroyed the church and the Armando Museum housed therein. Much of the collection also went up in flames. Marx and Steketee Architects were commissioned to rebuild and provided the church with a beautiful roof with skylight.
At The Elbow is an initiative of Amersfoort in C (Kunsthal KAdE, Museum Flehite, Mondriaanhuis, Architecture Center FASadE) and made possible by the Municipality of Amersfoort.
This special exhibition space focuses on contemporary art. With a focus on extensive installations that immerse you in a total experience, the Amersfoort museums surprises its visitors several times a year.
What is there to see now?
Artist Hans Op de Beeck created In The Elbow a new, site-specific, immersive installation, as he has created several in various locations over the past twenty years. Often enigmatic places with architectural and landscape dimensions, where the artist invites the viewer to find a timeless moment of reflection and calm.
In the Elbow Church, he installed a winter water landscape. In the background, a horizon of hills becomes visible above which there is a softly glowing representation of the sun.
"Water not only reflects in a literal sense, but figuratively stimulates reflection, reflective, contemplative thinking about being and the world." - Hans Op de Beeck
